Description: The ’58 Alifabolaget Swedish trading card features a seventeen year old Edson Arantes do Nasciemento, or Pele, during a match when he scored twice against a difficult Sweden on their home pitch in Stockholm. Only continuing to improve upon this already incredible accomplishment, Pele and Brazil would go on to win the 1958 and 1962 World Cups. A total of 767 career goals later, Pele would be considered the greatest Soccer/Futbol player of all-time. A fact which we find really speaks to Pele’s dominance is that in 1961 the government of Brazil declared Pele an “official national treasure” to prevent him from being scooped up by wealthy European clubs away from his Santos FC. Of the currently seventy-two ever assessed by PSA, only five have been awarded the elite NM-MT assessment with only nine grading higher (four PSA 8.5 & five PSA 9). The offered specimen easily ranks as the finest copy we’ve brokered in our long tenure, fully upholding the lofty judgement. The surfaces which highlight Pele’s baby-face are flawless, absent of all typical imperfections and presenting vivid color and flawless registration. Only the most extreme hints of wear to all four corner tips keeps from grading higher. All told, this issue is universally considered Pele’s flagship rookie card and is feverishly sought after by hobbyists and investors who enjoy the world’s most popular game. Recently a PSA 2 hammered for over $60,000; we’re proud to offer this fine-art equivalent to the investment community free of any reserve. Please view the video highlight for more details on this incredible offering. One of over 36,000 cards, lots and sets up for bid in our March Auction of 2021.
