Scotland National Football Team: Staff Deserve MORE Recognition
Stephen O’Donnell is asked what it would mean to the Scotland national football team’s manager and staff should they defeat Ukraine in their World Cup Qualifier.
Question to Stephen O’Donnel: “Going back to talking about the World Cup. What would it mean to the likes of Steve Clarke and the staff behind the scenes in the Scotland squad to get through to Qatar?”
O’Donnell replies that there is a strong sense of unity with the Scotland squad:
“Look what you can see with the team and the staff is there’s a real togetherness. People talk about it, but we do genuinely like each other. Like we talk amongst the staff and we sit, even Hendo bores me to death here, but when he goes away with Scotland he’s a good chat. ”
However, Stephen O’Donnell touches on the vital importance of Scotland’s football staff working behind the scenes to support Steve Clarke and his Scotland players:
“Everybody gets on and we are just a good group of guys and I think for all of us, the staff especially because there’s some background staff that don’t get much attention, but the organisation that goes into these trips whether it’s getting you to a bus, getting you a flight, looking after every need. Frank Riley was awarded an honorary PFA trophy last week.”
O’Donnell also feels that background staff require more recognition by the football industry for their services:
“Because these people behind the scenes in football who sometimes go unnoticed, but they’re really appreciated and it’s not just him, it’s a whole host of staff who do jobs behind the scenes not just in Scotland but every club and everybody wants Scotland to do well. We want Scotland qualifying every year.”
